Tessa's Recipe Rundown...
Taste: Like a massive peanut butter cup from heaven. Texture: The crust is crunchy yet buttery, the peanut butter filling is ultra light, fluffy, and luscious, and the candy on top takes it to a whole other level. Every bite is bliss. Ease: Super duper easy!! You’ll get a few dishes dirty and need some patience for the pie to set but this is a great easy go-to dessert recipe. Appearance: It’s everything a girl could want in a pie! Pros: Easy, crowd-pleasing, and can be made ahead of time. Cons: None! Would I make this again? 100% yes.
To me, peanut butter is one of the great pleasures of life. I’m OBSESSED with the stuff.
Especially when it’s combined with chocolate… in PIE form. Life doesn’t get much better than a Peanut Butter Pie.
This isn’t any old peanut butter pie. I mean, just look at it. It’s over the top, messy, and unapologetically sinful in the best possible way.
I’ve accompanied this recipe with a step-by-step video to not only show you how to make this beautiful pie, but to whet your appetite for it. Because the chocolate + peanut butter flavors truly belong together.
This easy peanut butter pie recipe is that it is a total crowd pleaser and won’t last long at all. That coupled with the fact that it can be made completely ahead of time makes it a perfect go-to recipe for easy entertaining. Everyone will want seconds of this pie. It’s that good!
How to Make Easy Peanut Butter Pie
Ingredients for Peanut Butter Pie Filling:
Cream cheese – make sure to use a regular full-fat cream cheese brick!
Powdered sugar
Peanut butter
Heavy whipping cream
Vanilla extract
Peanut Butter Pie CRUST Variations!
This recipe calls for a chocolate graham cracker crust, but you could also use:
Chocolate Teddy Grahams or chocolate wafer cookies (use the same amount by weight for best results, you should have about 1 3/4 cups crumbs total)
Oreo crust (follow the crust ingredients & instructions in this recipe)
Regular graham crackers (follow the crust instructions in this recipe)
My favorite part about this pie recipe is that it’s homemade! We make the filling with a mixture of peanut butter (of course!), cream cheese, heavy cream, and powdered sugar. Whipping the cream then folding it in with the other beaten ingredients gives this pie a light, creamy, yet rich texture without any Cool Whip.
What kind of peanut butter is best for pie?
Use conventional creamy peanut butter for this recipe, such as Skippy or Jif.
Any kind of “natural” peanut butter that doesn’t include an added oil to stabilize the mixture will result in a pie filling that will become oily and separated. If you must use natural peanut butter, make sure it’s extremely well stirred and smooth before using.
How much melted chocolate + peanut butter for topping?
This is entirely up to you and your taste preferences! Simply melt the peanut butter and chocolate in your microwave and drizzle as much as you’d like over your pie.
Can’t have peanuts? Use almond butter instead!
Use the same amount of almond butter as peanut butter in the recipe. Add 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and almond butter filling (still adding the 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to the heavy cream mixture as well).
For the toppings, skip the Reese’s cups and peanut butter chips and instead garnish with almond butter cups and melted chocolate, or any other toppings of your choice!
How Long is Peanut Butter Pie Good For?
You can actually serve the finished pie frozen or refrigerated, just depending on which texture you prefer. Or how hot it is outside! Store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
How to Freeze Peanut Butter Pie:
Wrap tightly in plastic wrap and store in the freezer for up to 1 month.
This homemade Peanut Butter Pie is made from scratch with just a few ingredients and will have everyone coming back for seconds! It's CRAZY good! With step-by-step video.
Ingredients
For the crust:
14whole chocolate graham crackers (196 grams)
1tablespoonlight brown sugar
7tablespoons(99 grams) unsalted butter, melted
For the filling:
8ounces(227 grams) cream cheese, at room temperature
3/4cup(94 grams) powdered sugar plus 2 tablespoons, divided
1cup(270 grams) creamy conventional peanut butter
1cup(240 grams) heavy whipping cream
1teaspoonvanilla extract
For the topping:
Melted peanut butter
Melted chocolate
Mini Reese’s cups
Peanut butter chips
Directions
Preheat the oven to 325°F.
For the crust:
In the bowl of a food processor, process the crackers and sugar until finely ground. Add the butter and pulse until moistened. Use the bottom of a measuring cup, glass, or ramekin to press the crust mixture into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie plate. Bake until fragrant, about 10 to 12 minutes. Cool completely on a wire rack.
For the filling:
In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the cream cheese, 3/4 cup powdered sugar, and the peanut butter until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer with the whisk attachment to whip the heavy cream until thick and light. Add in the remaining 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar and the vanilla extract and continue to whip until stiff peaks form.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the peanut butter mixture. Pour into the prepared pie shell and freeze for 3 hours or chill in the fridge at least 6 hours.
Place your melted peanut butter and melted chocolate in separate resealable bags or piping bags. Snip off a tiny corner of the bag's tip. Squeeze slightly to drizzle the melted peanut butter and melted chocolate over your pie. Top with mini Reese's cups and peanut butter chips. Serve frozen or refrigerated.
Store in the fridge, covered, for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 1 month.

Super easy, tastes great! Could even make it crustless if you were desperate for dessert and didn’t have crust ingredients! Can get creative or simple with toppings too. So easy and adaptable. Will be keeping this one in the rotation for sure and will keep it in mind for company too! Thanks!
This pie was easy to make and tastes delicious! I like that it can be stored in the freezer, too! I was unable to find cream cheese due to ongoing shortages in my area, but Neufchatel cheese worked perfectly. I also used dark chocolate Oreos for the crust; I used 20 cookies because they weren’t the same weight as regular Oreos. I’ll definitely be making this pie again in the future!
This recipe is a winner. I make this all the time to gift to friends and they all love it. The recipe is easy to execute and full of peanut butter deliciousness. Any peanut butter lover would love this pie.
Hi!
I am making this for my daughter’s birthday and I am wondering about the graham crackers. Do you mean 14 whole sheets/rectangles?
Thanks so much! She is going to love this!
Hi Sherry! You’ve got it right, you’ll need 14 sheets of chocolate graham crackers. Happy early birthday to your daughter, what a delicious treat to celebrate! Enjoy 🙂
Hello! Did you use a regular or deep dish pie plate? Also, what type of chocolate did you drizzle on top? After searching hundreds of recipes, I am definitely making for Saturday night’s game night with friends!
Hi Kim! We used OXO’s 9-inch pie pan, which is nice and deep (and comes with a cover!), but you could definitely use a regular pie pan, and it’ll work just fine. Another reader actually made theirs in a springform pan with great results! It helps that the filling isn’t baked, so you don’t have to worry about overflow in the oven 🙂 Tessa prefers using semisweet chocolate for the drizzle! Can’t wait for you to try this pie, let us know what you think!
I just made seven of these for a crowd of 48 people coming over tomorrow. No chocolate graham crackers or teddy grahams so I went with the prepared Oreo crust.
One question: generally speaking, do you find that people prefer it frozen or refrigerated? Say, if you had to pick one option….? Or should I put some in the freezer and the other half in the fridge?
Hi Christina! Hope everyone enjoyed your pie! As for the temperature, it honestly depends on the texture that you prefer! Most readers refrigerate their pie, but you’re definitely welcome to try both ways! 🙂
I didn’t cool the crust completely before putting in the filling. After pouring in the filling I put it straight into my chest freezer. Will the pie still be okay?
Hi Annie! We recommend cooling the crust before the filling is added. The sugar melts as it bakes and re-hardens as it cools and actually sets the crust. How did your pie turn out?
the drizzle for chocolate and peanut butter. Can you just melt chocolate chips and plain peanut butter in mircowave and put into a ziplock bag and cut the end off?
Holy peanut butter! I’ve tried several pb pie recipes with no success. This recipe is fantastic! The entire pie was eaten. I couldn’t find chocolate graham crackers so I used Oreos. I’ve already received a request to make again for Xmas
I’ve made this peanut butter pie a couple of time, always 2 ies at once. IT IS AMAZING!!
It’s really rich. I cut it in small portions to try to slow people down; otherwise it is devoured at once. I work with 5 men and they could eat this every day. But it only lasts one day! And my adult sons could finish a pie between them in one sitting if they were allowed.
This Peanut Butter Pie is a Winner!
I follow the directions exactly, doubling the recipe for 2 pies every time.
Thank you for this wonderful, crowd-pleasing recipe!
We’ve made this pie several times and it’s a family favorite! We’re having trouble finding the chocolate graham crackers this time around. Any idea if Oreos would be an okay substitute for the crust recipe? Or another suggestions?
So happy to hear that, Megan! We haven’t tried an Oreo crust with this recipe, but I’d imagine it’d be delicious! Check out our French Silk Pie recipe and follow the instructions to make the Oreo crust there 🙂 You could try chocolate teddy grahams or other chocolate cookies as other substitutes. Please let us know how it goes!
I did make it. Turned out awesome. After I made the crust, I made the whipped cream first and transferred it to another bowl and put it in the fridge. I made the filling in the same mixing bowl. Less dishes…win. My grocery store didn’t have peanut butter chips so I used Reeses pieces instead. Turned out perfect.
I love peanut butter pie and often order it from a favorite restaurant. I was excited to try this recipe and I am so glad that I did! It was so amazing. This recipe is a keeper for certain. Thank you!
Loved it so much. I used your recipe for the filling and subbed powdered coconut sugar instead of the regular one. I used a different recipe for a paleo crust.
I just loved the consistency and flavour of your filling. I made 2 pies over the weekend and there are already people ordering to make more for them
This is gonna be my go-to dessert for any occasion!
So happy you were able to experiment and find the perfect pie to suit everyone’s needs! Wonderful to hear it’s now your go-to, Alessia, thanks for letting us know!
Definitely try to get a good chocolate layer in there. It’s rich with a lot of peanut butter! Serve frozen with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I melted organic chocolate pieces in a ziplock, cut the corner and squeezed it on, but I would have liked half peanut butter, half chocolate. Maybe mix the choc silk pie with this one and make two pies!!
Hi Kelly! We haven’t tried that so we can’t say for sure how it would turn out, but chocolate cookies are normally a good substitute in crusts. Please let us know how it goes!
This was the best peanut butter pie ever! So rich and delicious. I made it for a co-worker’s birthday and everyone loved it! The only thing I did differently is I used an 8-inch spring form pan. It worked perfectly!
thank you for this recipe! I made 3 of these for my work today (pastry chef for private lodge). I did not have all the nice candy toppings, so I just smoothed the tops, drizzled with chocolate sauce, and made whipped cream rosettes. I think the recipe has a good balance, not too sweet. I guess I will find out tomorrow if the guests liked it too 😀
This pie is amazing as is. I made it gluten free the 2nd time by using gluten free Oreos for the crust and added a layer of chocolate ganache to the top before the toppings.
Would like to know how much peanut butter and chocolate is used to drizzle on top of pie. If this had been included it would be a 5 star. Very helpful to know amounts of ingredients are needed. Thank you
I made this pie for my mom on Mothers Day yesterday and she LOVED IT! I was so thrilled because I put a lot into it but all the credit goes to you! Thank you!
I added a whipped cream topping and then decorated with Reeses mini bits and melted peanut Butter. Everyone raved about it. I do remember a PB pie in regular crust and Meringue topping. Have you ever tried this?
Made this for my boyfriends birthday (he doesn’t care for traditional cake) and everyone loved it! Was intimidated at first but turned out very easy to make! I wish I could post a pic of the finished product- a few people thought it was store bought! Will be making this again for sure !
This recipe looks delicious and so does the photo. But the photo shows a chocolate crust and the recipe is a graham cracker crust. I’m confused. Please help.
Ok, this was amazing! My mother in law doesn’t really like peanut butter but even she loved this pie. I put a layer of chocolate ganache on the top and then a layer of whipped cream. So, so good and very easy to put together. 100% a do over!
I LOVE peanut butter so when I saw this pie posted I had to try it. It is soooo good! 100% will make it again. It was easy peasy too. I put a layer of chocolate ganache on the top and then a layer of whipped cream. Yummy!!!
This is a great recipe and natural PB works just fine! I make it a point not to purchase conventional PB in my house due to the addition of hydrogenated oils, stabilizers, and sugar. I heartily disagree with the statement that any kind of natural PB will result in a pie filling that’s oily and separated. The PB in this recipe is mixed with sugar and cream cheese, and the pie needs to be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. There is no way that the peanut butter is going to separate out under those conditions.
Oh my gosh!!! This is the best pie I’ve ever made! I took it to work and they devoured it! I’m making one now for Thanksgiving to change things up a bit! I used a store bought chocolate crust the first time but made a chocolate crust today with Nabisco chocolate wafers. Looks much better! Can’t wait to try more of your recipes!!

This pie is amazingly easy and effortlessly delicious!
Such a quick and easy pie recipe! Tastes like a Reese’s peanut butter cup!
I love peanut butter and this satisfies all the cravings. So easy and delicious!

Glad to hear Neufchâtel worked well, Rae! Dark chocolate Oreos sound insanely good for the crust too, yum!
This pie is delicious! I used your oreo crust recipe instead of the Graham crackers, and it was fantastic! 🙂
So happy you enjoyed it, Maureen!
Everyone loved this! Just the right amount of peanut butter and sugar!
This recipe is a winner. I make this all the time to gift to friends and they all love it. The recipe is easy to execute and full of peanut butter deliciousness. Any peanut butter lover would love this pie.
Amazing! It’s light and has the perfect peanut butter flavor. It’s also super easy to make!
Must try for all peanut butter lovers! I made this for thanksgiving and it was easy and delicious!!
This pie is decadent! It’s easy to make, is visually stunning, and heaven to eat!

It turned out great! I was worried that the warm crust would change the taste of the filling, but it was delicious! Thank you!
Great! I’m so glad to hear that 🙂
the drizzle for chocolate and peanut butter. Can you just melt chocolate chips and plain peanut butter in mircowave and put into a ziplock bag and cut the end off?
Sure, that would be fine! Melt and drizzle each ingredient separately 🙂 Let us know what you think of this recipe!
Thank you so much. Wonderful
Holy peanut butter! I’ve tried several pb pie recipes with no success. This recipe is fantastic! The entire pie was eaten. I couldn’t find chocolate graham crackers so I used Oreos. I’ve already received a request to make again for Xmas
Great idea to use Oreos! Happy to hear this recipe was such a hit, thanks so much for the comment 🙂

Hi Judy! We haven’t tried that, though it sounds delicious! please let us know how it goes if you give it a try 🙂
My son loves this pie!!
So glad to hear that!

Definite win! And another win using Reese’s Pieces, YUM!! So happy you loved this recipe, Barb!
How did you melt the chocolate & peanut butter please?
Hi Valerie! We just melted them in the microwave!
I love peanut butter pie and often order it from a favorite restaurant. I was excited to try this recipe and I am so glad that I did! It was so amazing. This recipe is a keeper for certain. Thank you!

Great recipe!
Can I sub chocolate teddy grahams for the chocolate graham crackers? They are not available at my local store.
Thanks!
Hi Kelly! We haven’t tried that so we can’t say for sure how it would turn out, but chocolate cookies are normally a good substitute in crusts. Please let us know how it goes!

Can the peanut butter pie be made sugar free?
I haven’t tried that!
This was a really great pie and very easy to make. I plan to keep this recipe for future use. Thank you!
Wonderful! I’m so happy you loved this recipe! 🙂
I have made this recipe and it went over like the 4th of July, it was a hit.
Perfect! I’m so happy to hear everyone loved your pie!
thank you for this recipe! I made 3 of these for my work today (pastry chef for private lodge). Amazing! Best peanut butter pie I have ever had!
Hooray!!
This pie is amazing as is. I made it gluten free the 2nd time by using gluten free Oreos for the crust and added a layer of chocolate ganache to the top before the toppings.
Perfect! I’m glad you were able to easily tweak it 🙂
Would like to know how much peanut butter and chocolate is used to drizzle on top of pie. If this had been included it would be a 5 star. Very helpful to know amounts of ingredients are needed. Thank you
The toppings are purely to your taste, which is why it wasn’t added. Some people don’t like as much topping on their pie 🙂
Hi Mrs Tessa,
I made this pie for my mom on Mothers Day yesterday and she LOVED IT! I was so thrilled because I put a lot into it but all the credit goes to you! Thank you!
That’s so sweet, Ashton 🙂 I’m so happy to hear your pie was a hit with your mom!
Delicious!! Tasted even better than our local burger joint’s PB pie, which I was previously obsessed with! Now I just want to make my own.
So thrilled to hear this, Ashley!
How much melted chocolate and how much melted peanutbutter
That is completely up to you. It totally depends on how much chocolate and peanut butter you prefer for your topping 🙂
I added a whipped cream topping and then decorated with Reeses mini bits and melted peanut Butter. Everyone raved about it. I do remember a PB pie in regular crust and Meringue topping. Have you ever tried this?
I haven’t, but it sounds delicious! Glad your pie was a hit! 🙂

Awesome, Tiffany! Glad it was a hit!
It was so delicious
Made this at 730 pm and just threw in the freezer- will it be ok to stay in freezer till morning and decorate it then?
Hi Tiffany, this pie is actually freezable so definitely fine overnight 🙂
This recipe looks delicious and so does the photo. But the photo shows a chocolate crust and the recipe is a graham cracker crust. I’m confused. Please help.
Hi Susie, the recipe has a chocolate graham cracker crust 🙂
Crazy good! It’s my bribe pie.
LOL! Glad you love this recipe!
I made this! Made the crust yesterday and filled it today. Super easy instructions! Can’t wait for dessert!
The best ever! Easy and delicious!
Yay!
Best peanut butter pie recipe hands down, I usually buy the Oreo crust and Oreos to crush up to put on top instead of the peanut butter cups
So glad you love this pie recipe!
Ok, this was amazing! My mother in law doesn’t really like peanut butter but even she loved this pie. I put a layer of chocolate ganache on the top and then a layer of whipped cream. So, so good and very easy to put together. 100% a do over!

Do you have a recipe for chocolate chip cookies with cinnamon? Best cookie I have ever eaten.
My oatmeal chocolate chip cookies have a hint of cinnamon in them!

What kind of chocolate do you use and how do you melt it for the topping?

This makes me so, so happy! Thanks so much for sharing this with me Nancy!
Heavenly! So delicious and rich! The best Peanut Butter Pie I have ever had.
Only change would be less candy on top! Thanks for the recipe.
